Ha! That was my first week at Univ and I was muddling lots of things up, sorry! By the way, there was a very good review of Brokeback in the NYRB a few weeks ago - http://www.nybooks.com/articles/18712 - admiring, but against the grain of most criticism/adulation.

Hmm, a thoughtful review. Perhaps we could describe it as metacriticism though, in that he is tackling those who seek to shape the direction and focus of debate on the film, rather than the film itself. I must admit his tackling the 'it's not just a gay movie' topos is convincing: "The real achievement of Brokeback Mountain is not that it tells a universal love story that happens to have gay characters in it, but that it tells a distinctively gay story that happens to be so well told that any feeling person can be moved by it."
